2222Here at JaxChristian, we enjoy the opportunity to connect with other writers within the community, providing them with a platform to display their talent. They each have something important to say, and what they write is from the heart. Personally, I find those the most compelling articles to read.

Recently, we came across an essay written by a local 13-year old home-schooler. As a writer, I was energized to see the raw talent of this young, passionate essayist. Undoubtedly, her article was written from the heart. As an editor, her article was such a delight to review. I strove to make the few corrections necessary while maintaining the same quality, voice and tone in which I received it. To make changes to any of those would have been an injustice to her writing and to her topic.

As you read the following article, I’m sure you’ll be amazed at the wisdom and insight radiating from this young person. And “out of the mouths of babes…” (Psalm 8:2)

A law that I would like to see changed is the law allowing abortion. Abortion is killing an innocent baby, causing many health issues for women, and allowing people to not be responsible for their own actions. I feel that if murder is illegal, then abortion should also be illegal because it kills a live person just as a murderer does!

The first and most important reason abortion should be illegal is that it is killing an innocent baby! The baby could have changed the world or could have been just a regular person with a regular job. But he/she doesn’t get the chance to do either of those things as well as not have the chance to feel love or friendship!

This baby has done nothing wrong to anyone and is a creation of God. So why have an abortion? Why not put the baby up for adoption instead? If the person having the abortion does so simply because she doesn’t want the baby or doesn’t have enough money to take care of the baby, why kill him/her? Instead, she can put the baby up for adoption. This is something that I just can’t understand!  Why kill an innocent baby? This is a link to a video that can really open the eyes of women considering abortion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S17TiX_EavI

The second reason that abortion should be illegal is that it causes many health issues for women around the world. For example, the risk of “breast cancer almost doubles after one abortion, and rises even further with two or more abortions.”  “Abortion is associated with cervical and uterine damage which may increase the risk of premature delivery, complications of labor and abnormal development of the placenta in later pregnancies. These reproductive complications are the leading causes of handicaps among newborns.” “According to the best record-based study of deaths following pregnancy and abortion, a 1997 government-funded study in Finland--women who abort are approximately four times more likely to die in the following year than women who carry their pregnancies to term. In addition, women who carry to term are only half as likely to die as women who were not pregnant.”

These are just a few health issues that abortion can cause. I knew that abortion causes health issues for women, but honestly, I did not know it could double the risk of cancer or almost triple the risk of death about a year after the abortion. I found all of this information at www.afterabortion.org.

The last reason that abortion should be illegal is that it is letting people not be responsible for what they do. Less responsibility is most definitely one thing this world does NOT need more of!

In our society today, it seems that we are making it so much easier for people to not be responsible for their actions. Therefore, they never learn a lesson from their mistakes, feeling that it’s “”OK” to do the same things again without any consequences.  If we are always bailed out of our mistakes, we learn to depend on others for fixing our problems and not learning to work hard to do what is right. Not only does this lead to a life of immoral behavior, but it can also lead to a destructive life.

I discovered a website that reported the number of abortions performed every year in each state in America. As I read the list in shock, I realized that Florida and California had the most abortions last year. California had about 236,060. Florida had about 103,050. This sounds like the number of deaths in a war. I have no idea how America can be so irresponsible that we are allowing millions of babies to be killed!

Abortion is such a terrible thing, and I just can’t understand why it’s even legal! Why not make it illegal and do adoption, not abortion. Why let millions of babies die every year?

Please consider changing this law to save the lives of innocent babies, rescue women from terrible health issues, and prevent people from being so irresponsible for their actions!
