The New York Times has published several pieces on the subject: "Taking a Break from the Lord's Work" by Paul Vitello, and "Congregations Gone Wild" by G. Jeffrey MacDonald. The Clergy Health Initiative at Duke Divinity School has published a new report on the poor mental and physical health of pastors. NPR has featured interviews on the subject. Remedies range from developing better boundaries to engaging in self-care to putting the brakes on the demands of congregation members.

Burn_outFew things are as exhausting as doing something you are not suited for by gift (Christ-endowment), temperament, and calling. Regrettably, that is the norm for many believers based out of well-meaning but misguided understanding of faithfulness, love, and service to and for “the church.” We live like we are pack mules for ministry instead of sons and daughters of the Most High. We function out of religious obligation and moralistic duty, rather than from Spirit-empowerment. We either do not know how, or are not given permission to say: “No.”

GODSGLORIOUSGOVERNMENT2My wife, Barbara, and others are amazed at how much writing I am doing these days.  This is my sixth book since turning seventy-five seventeen months ago.  One person said, “You are writing faster than I can read!”  I, too, am somewhat amazed, but mostly blessed.  I am simply “unpacking” almost fifty years of apostolicity—nearly a half century of apostolic migration.

Throughout the Scripture, gold is symbolic of divine nature. Certainly this applies to us as 2 Peter 1:4 states it so clearly, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these YE might be partakers of the divine nature...” Yes, we now have a new DNA, and we must exude this new Divine Nature Attitude.
