Ok I said it. Yes I went there. God knows somebody needs to talk about it. We are losing the virginity, the innocence and the holiness of an entire generation to this age old disease. I won’t mention how many divorces in our 75% divorce rate for greater Jacksonville began right here. This is more than a teenage problem that will go away after you “sow your wild oats”.

Through my years of counseling, it wasn't uncommon to visit with someone who was struggling with changes in their spouse who was working at leaving an addiction behind. One would think that they would be elated; however, I was recently reminded of the interesting cycle that takes place which causes great turmoil for the one who is ultimately addicted to their spouse’s addiction.

There is an old adage: “Hurt people hurt people.”It is well known that those who have been emotionally damaged tend to inflict their hurt and pain on other people. For example, a large percentage of those who have been sexually abused become the abusers of others; those who suffered under an alcoholic parent often themselves cause their future family to suffer because of their drunken stupors.
